Changes to the Corona entry regulation

Date 2023.01.09

(Compulsory test for travelers from China)

As of 09.01.2023, the People's Republic of China is classified as a virus variant area in which a variant of particular concern threatens to emerge. As a result, persons who have reached the age of 12 years and are travelling from the People's Republic of China to Germany will have to present a negative COVID-19 test certificate before travelling onwards. This obligation to provide proof also applies to vaccinated persons and persons who have recovered.

The test certificate shall not be older than 48 hours. Tests using nucleic acid detection (e.g. PCR, PoC-NAT) and PoC antigen tests are accepted. In the case of testing by means of nucleic acid detection, the period of 48 hours begins to run from the (planned) time of the start of the transport; in the case of testing by means of a PoC antigen test, the time of the (planned) entry is decisive.

In the case of entry from a virus variant area, the proof of testing shall be presented to the carrier at his request for the purpose of random checking. The required test certificate must be carried on entry into Germany and presented to the competent authorities on request for random checks. Upon request, random testing after entry by the competent authorities is also possible.
